Uncle Rick Reads A Christmas Carol

One of the kids` very favorite family traditions has been dad reading Charles Dickens` A Christmas Carol to the family during the Christmas season. He reads one stave (like a chapter) each evening. We usually turn off the lights while he reads by the light of the Christmas tree and candles.

From the very first "Bah, humbug!" to the final "God bless us every one," the justly famous Charles Dickens brings Christmas of long ago to radiant life once more. In this timeless Christmas classic, grumpy old Ebenezer Scrooge can`t seem to make up his mind whether he`s dreaming or actually travelling through time with the Spirits of Christmas. Scrooge has dedicated his life to scratching and hoarding the gold that perishes, but even the old miser himself finds that he`s not immune to the magic of the season. Boyhood memories, scenes of joyous celebration and the poignant and vulnerable innocence of Tiny Tim Cratchit finally pierce the shell that Scrooge had thought impenetrable. And many are the hearts that are touched when Scrooge the grouch becomes Uncle Scrooge who "knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge." God bless us, every one!
